Fashion came even earlier to me. I grew up watching my mother make clothes at home, Mum being a Tailor trained in Germany and the UK. Afropean fashion was later introduced to me inadvertently as Mum brought three big books home to Nigeria when we relocated to Benin City.

I can remember her transposing the European styles into African fabrics especially Ankara to remarkable resplendent requirements. I can still even after many decades understand the first musical ensemble being the whirl of Mum’s Singer sewing machine and the different sounds from the Overlocking machine to the crunch of cloth by sharp or blunted industrial scissors. The exercise from the repeated cut of cloth would later enhance my drumming as the various drum percussive tones where easily and rapidly interchanged to evolve speech from the drum ensuing orthography.

Whilst I have been experimenting with my namesake and GUNJU P.A Mr Seyi Dada since 2012, only recently have I become confident of introducing a collection which has become evident from the introduction of the Tye and Dye, Sunsire material fabric. Sunsire being the name of my Tailors: Seyi younger daughter.

As always, we employ a unique yet ubiquitous realm and application in the design of GUNJU fashion.
